Digital Guide to Moth Identification

North American Lepidoptera Genitalia Library
Tortricidae
5100633563Acleris capizziana Obraztsov, 1963
  • Acleris capizziana Obraztsov, 1963 includes as a synonym Acleris lipsiana of authors; (not [Denis & Schiffermüller], 1775) in Gilligan et al. (2020), Insects, 11(9), 594: 1-59 with "true" lipsiana treated as extralimital to North America.

DNA barcode places a paratype of capizziana in the same BIN group with specimens identified as lipsiana from both North America and Europe. Barcode separates the Nearctic and Palearctic populations into two clusters. A specimen from Alberta and Quebec more closely resemble lipsiana and barcode slightly closer to Europen specimens. It is unclear if capizziana represents a distinct species or if lipsiana represents a complex with several distinct species.
  • Barcode of Life (BOLD) - Caution: DNA barcode provides evidence of relatedness, not proof of identification, and some BOLD specimens shown may not be sequenced.
  • Barcode of Life (BOLD) - BIN: BOLD:AAD6818 (capizziana (part)). - Caution: DNA barcode provides evidence of relatedness, not proof of identification.
