Distribution: Native to India, Southeast Asia and Australia; not found in North America north of Mexico. Seasonality and Size: Forewing length 11mm Larva and Host Plants: Pest of fruit trees, feeds on the fruits, especially peaches. Has been recorded on many different hosts including, but not limited to, Prunus persica (peach), Psidium guajava (guava), Andropogon sorghum & Sorghum bicolor (sorghum), Dendrophthoe glabrescens (orange mistletoe), Durio zibethinus (Durian), Ficus carica (Fig), Helianthus annuus (sunflower), Zea mays (maize/corn), Zingiber officinale (Ginger), Malus pumila (paradise apple), Mangifera indica (mango), Morus alba (white mulberry), Punica granatum (pomegranate), Pyrus communis (European pear), Quercus acutissima (sawtooth oak), Ricinus communis (castor oil plant), Theobroma cacao (Cocoa), and Tectona grandis (teak). Description/ Field Marks: Yellow fore and hindwings with many small black spots. Abdomen can have visible rows of black spots on the first four segments. Males have black scales on abdominal segment 8. Similar Species: Superficially similar to Polygrammodes elevate although the spots on this species are dark purple, and the fore and hind wings have a thin gold margin from apex to tornus. Phaedropsis stictigramma is similar but lacks the black dots on the abdominal segments and the for and hindwing have black margins. Abdominal segments 7 and 8 have white bands across them, which is not present in C. punctiferalis Pinned specimens of related species. (Hint: select View by Region on the related species page.)
