Distribution: Ryuku Islands of Japan; not found in North America north of Mexico.
Seasonality
and Size:
Forewing length ranges 22-30mm in males and 40-41mm in females.
Larva and
Host Plants:
Larvae have been recorded as feeding on Castanopsis sieboldii (Fagaceae), Elaeocarpus sylvestris (Elaeocarpaceae).
Similar Species:
  • L. apicebrunnea is similar however the outer margin of the forewing is brown, as opposed to L. albescens' dark gray wing margin. Both species have a broad costal margin on he hindwing however it is dark gray in L. albescens and brown in L. apicebrunnea.“Egg masses indistinguishable from those of L/ xylina, except for a slight color tone difference”.The valves in the male genitalia of L. albescens are with a straight distal process, which is curved dorsally in L. apicebrunnea.
