Taxonomic Notes: |
Argyroploce mengelana (Fernald, 1894), current placement following Gilligan & Brown (in Pohl & Nanz (eds.) 2023) and Aarvik et al. (2017), was formerly in the genus Olethreutes. This species is was reported as being represented at BOLD by BIN group BOLD:AAB9942, and therefore holarctic, in Gilligan et al. (2020). Based on work done by J-F Landry, it is our current understanding that mengelana is more likely restricted to North America and is represented by a subcluster in BOLD:AAB9941, a BIN which also includes a subcluster referring to A. aquilonana Karvonen, 1932. BOLD:AAB9942 is referable to Olethreutes bowmanana (McDunnough, 1923); genitalia of a barcoded specimen was confirmed by Michael Sabourin. |
