Synonymy:
  • indecorana (Zetterstedt, 1839) (Teras) - MONA 1983: [NEW since Pohl & Nanz (eds.) (2023)]; Lectotype: Greenland (TL: Norway and Greenland).
  • Taxonomic Notes: Epinotia indecorana (Zetterstedt, 1839): The relationship of this species to E. sperana McDunnough, 1935, E. trigonella (Linnaeus, 1758) and their synonyms is uncertain (Michael Sabourin, in lit. 5iii2025). Considered a subspecies of Epinotia trigonella (Linnaeus, 1758) by some workers, indecorana was treated as a full species by Karsholt et al. (2015), then subsequently as a synonym of trigonella by Gilligan & Brown (in Pohl & Nanz (eds.) 2023) based on a lack of DNA support. However, the DNA evidence is inconclusive and differences in female genitalia do appear to separate the two species (M. Sabourin in lit., 2024). Also, the two appear to be ecologically different (M. Mutanen in lit., 2024). Future DNA and genitalia work, especially with Greenland specimens, would seem warranted.
