Distribution:	West and north of Great Basin. Disjunct population in Cypress Hills of Alberta and Saskatchewan. Coniferous forests, in particular but not confined to Douglas-fir forests. Elevations ~ sea-level to near tree-line.
Larva and Host Plants:	Conifers.
Description/ Field Marks:	Highly variable in both size and color.
Similar Species:	See also 9181 P. gigantea, 9177 P. acronyctoides nigra. Pinned specimens of related species. (Hint: select View by Region on the related species page.)
Synonymy:	virginarius (Grote, 1880) (Biston) - MONA 1983: 9178 Type locality: Portland, OR. angelica (Dyar, 1921) (Diphthera) portlandia Grote, 1896 (Panthea) suffusa McDunnough, 1942 (Panthea)
Taxonomic Notes:	Panthea virginarius: Includes as synonyms Panthea portlandia [9179] and Panthea angelica [9180].
