Synonymy:
  • thoracica (Edwards, 1884) (Eulithosia) - MONA 1983: 9774; TL: Arizona.
  • flaviceps (Druce, 1899) (Cyptonychia); TL: Mexico.
Note: type species of Cyptonychia; treated as a synonym of thoracica in Watson et al. (1980). This synonym was omitted without explanation from both the 1983 and 2023 Checklists.
  • Taxonomic Notes: Chrysoecia thoracica (Edwards, 1884) includes as a synonym Cryptonychia flaviceps Druce, 1899, type species of the genus Cyptonychia Druce, 1899, in Watson et al. (1980). This synonym was apparently overlooked by Franclemont & Todd (in Hodges et al. 1983) (Checklist) and Schmidt (in Pohl & Nanz (eds.) 2023) (Checklist). The former listed thoracica in the genus Cyptonychia, and the latter listed it in Chrysoecia Hampson, 1908 following Poole (1995). Poole made no mention of Cyptonychia, however, Pohl & Nanz inadvertently listed Cyptonychia as a junior synonym of Chrysoecia. If the synonymy in Watson et al. is correct, then the genus would apparently be Cryptonychia for thoracica and possibly some or all of the other species currently listed in Chrysoecia.
