Taxonomic Notes: |
Coleophora bernoulliella (Goeze, 1783) is now recognized within the North American fauna (Landry in Pohl & Nanz (eds.) 2023). This European species was apparently introduced in North America and variously misidentified as other species in the genus, J-F Landry (pers. comm., 12/14/2019). DNA barcoded specimens reported from RI in 2019.
The name bernoulliella was treated by Emmet (1996) and some subsequent authors as a nomen oblitum. "The designation of a neotype of Tinea bernoulliella Goeze, 1783 would certainly help to stabilize the nomenclature of this species." - Aarvik et al. (2025). |
