Moria Robinson reports: Found in 5th instar on foliage of Eriodictyon californica, but it was never observed eating. Aestivated along midrib of E. californica leaves for more than 1 month, and is extremely cryptic in that position. From these observations, I believe E. californica is the host, but from a brief lit. search, I could not find E. californica host records for Hellinsia.

  • Taxonomic Notes: Hellinsia fieldi (Wright, 1921) includes as a synonym 6179 Hellinsia meyricki, syn. nov. in Gielis (1993), Zool. Verh. Leiden 290: 70. H. meyricki is listed as a full species based on larval and pupal characteristics, (unpublished MS) in Matthews (2016), www.plumemoth.com, accessed May, 2017.
