Similar Species:
  • Anarta crotchii and Anarta fusculenta are easily confused. Examination of genitalia is required. A. crotchii is not presently known in southern California south of Yosemite.
  • Pinned specimens of related species. (Hint: select View by Region on the related species page.)
Synonymy:
  • fusculenta Smith 1891 (Mamestra)
  • Taxonomic Notes: Anarta fusculenta (Smith, 1891), formerly placed in the genus Discestra, n. comb. and n. status in Mustelin (2006), Zootaxa, 1278: 1-47, was previously treated as a subspecies of 10233 Anarta crotchii.
